Vintage tools -  plane D1394

Up for sale is a hard to find antique SPIERS PLANE O AYR, with matching number cutter & base.

One of SPIERS attempts at introducing a new product line to compete with the English made Stanleys that had started to be produced in the 1920s.

The PLANE O AYR had cool & simple design that worked well, but with no depth or lateral adjustment or frog adjustment, Spiers found it an uphill battle to complete against the Stanley juggernaut. After all there was only around 1/2 a dozen in the Spiers team, workers & management included. This plane blade has a military broad arrow stamped into the top.

CONDITION

This plane is in authentic vintage condition, wear and tear consistent with age & use, a matching numbers cutter & plane, some dents & light pitting to the base, a lovely Scottish plane from some of the last production days. When its thick laminated cutter has been sharpened, this plane will be a pleasure to use.
