Up for sale is a stunning & RARE Premium Quality HENRY DISSTON Double Eagle 10" Carcass Saw, freshly Hand Sharpened.


This dovetail saw is 10" long & is a 14.5PPI fine rip profile with 5° of rake, 52 deep at the toe & 55 deep at the heel, it has a 24 thou thick saw plate.
This Disston Dovetail Saws Eagle medallion dates to 1840-50s, the spine features very early double eagle backstamps & a heavy arris to the lower edge, the handle is amazing & is a transitional style between the more familiar later back saws & the earliest Disston back saws that had lambs tongues, it has a huge & thick top horn & the boss / nose of the handle is quite pointed.
There aren't many Disstons of this vintage, it's super super early & a rare survivor- a pre American Civil War saw, the wood is superb- the burnt toffee colour that you get from 150+ years of work.

Hand finished handle, double eagle backstamps, split nut fasteners, this is a saw from the "Golden Years" of saw manufacture 1830-1920s, when their skill was at it's zenith & the materials were high quality & makers took pride in their work & stood by their tools as a quality product, carpenters weren't using hand held circular saws yet, so they needed saws that worked well & held an edge. 


This saw is for the woodworker that is happy to work unplugged, you'll know what I mean when you read this, it's like fast food vs slow food, it's getting back to the heart of woodworking & using your hands, not flicking a switch.
It cuts well, all sharpened saws are fully guaranteed, if it fails your expectations of a sharp saw, send it back in the condition that I sent it to you for your money back- simple. Any blue colour you can see on the toothline is engineers blue set out fluid that my saw dr uses to keep track of where he's filed- if you've ever sharpened a saw before this will make sense to you, it rubs of easy with meths or orange oil or use.

CONDITION

This saw is in authentic vintage condition, wear and tear consistent with age and use, numerous dents dings & chips & scratches to the handle, freshly sharpened & set, the handle has an old repair to the rear tip of the boss / nose & a chip out of the forward facing hook & an age check to the same area, it's ready to go to work in the discerning workshop, an ultra scarce little Disston Double Eagle Backsaw.
