DESCRIPTION:

Premium Quality saw S68 EB#329:

Up for sale is an amazing rare & genuine G&T.GRAY of Sheffield SQUARE & RULE crosscut hand saw, with brass square plates on the handle & a ruler etched along the back edge of the saw.

A full sized 26" / 665mm hand saw, it's freshly hand sharpened to 15° of rake & 25° of fleam, a gently graduated crosscut of 7ppi at the toe & 6ppi at the heel.

George & Thomas Gray were making saws in Sheffield from 1849 up until 1929, comparing the blade stamp & style with known examples date this saw to 1870 or thereabouts.

We tend to think of integrated ruler & square saws as a modern invention, but the original patent for a ruler & square saw in the USA was granted to Jackson Gorham back in 1856.

This saw is for the woodworker that is happy to work unplugged, you'll know what I mean when you read this, it's like fast food vs slow food, it's getting back to the heart of woodworking & using your hands, not flicking a switch.

It cuts well, please note all sharpened saws are fully guaranteed, if it fails your expectations of a sharp saw, send it back in the condition that I sent it to you for your money back- simple, please note any blue colour you can see on the tooth line is engineers set out fluid- my saw Dr uses it to keep track of where he's filed- if you've ever sharpened a saw that will make sense to you.

Weight - 930g

Overall length - 77cm

CONDITION

This saw is in authentic vintage condition, wear and tear consistent with age and use, it's sharp & straight, the plate has a lot of old pecking hammer marks across it, the handle has an age check in front of the lowest fixing on the front face & a carefully done repair to the underside of the top horn, it's a very very uncommon saw, wickedly sharp & ready to go to work in the unplugged workshop.

Please check the photos as they are part of the description.

All of our items are genuine vintage - that means they have been used, and have the normal wear and tear associated with a genuine vintage item. Please check all photos carefully as the photos form a large part of the condition description, and ask any questions you may have prior to your purchase.
