Up for sale is a gorgeous antique genuine LIGNUM VITAE SADDLERS MALLET, made of one of the densest heaviest timbers in the world.
A great decorative element & very popular with sculptors & woodturners or use as intended.
A magnificent patina to the wood.
“Lignum vitae is a wood from trees of the Genus Guaiacum. The trees are indigenous to the Caribbean and the northern coast of South America and have been an important export crop to Europe since the beginning of the 16th century. Lignum vitae is hard and durable, and is also the densest wood traded. It’s used to make lawn bowls, croquet mallets & it has seen widespread historical usage in mortars and pestles and for wood carvers' mallets. Lignum vitae was used for ship and submarine propeller bearings until the 1960s” - Wikipedia
