ITEM DESCRIPTION:

Antique plane - H1946:

A gorgeous & genuine vintage NORRIS A5  infill PLANE with a heavy INDIAN ROSEWOOD infill & an ALEX MATHIESON heavy parallel blade.

A dovetailed steel body & with the patent date of 1913 on the adjustment knob make it one of the earliest A5s.

These don’t chatter when planing due to: 1. thick steel cutters. 2. the cutters are bedded against rosewood & don’t slip. 3. The sheer mass of the planes keep them moving once moving. 4. Super tight mouth clearances.

Considered the ROLLS ROYCE of planes by many including Fine Woodworking magazine, they are an absolute delight to use, sharpen it up & you’ll be taking gossamer shavings off cranky boards of timber with gusto.

A tight mouth & a 2 & 1/8” or 54mm cutter.

CONDITION

This plane is in authentic vintage condition, wear and tear consistent with age and use, an old repair to the closed handle under the blade. Refinished by a previous owner, the rosewood is absolutely gorgeous in this plane & its sharp enough to use as is.
